Ernst de Corte

Jules de Corte (1924 – 1996) was a musician, lyricist and singer. You could call him a singer-songwriter of his time. He became known to the general public through songs like Ik Zou Wel Eens Wilen Weten and De Vogels.

Son Ernst de Corte had a difficult relationship with his father. He long resented him for abandoning his family. Just when he and his father had started talking again, Jules de Corte fell ill and died.

Ernst was left with many questions he still had for his father.

However, he has now found the answer: in the thousands of texts that his father wrote.

“So it would be a shame to let those songs gather dust,” Ernst thinks. “If you’re not careful, Jules’ repertoire will be forgotten and disappear.” That’s why Ernst performs in the country to bring his father’s work back to the public. And especially songs that fit into this era.

Ernst is accompanied by pianist Izak Boom and bassist Pieter Althuis.
