Emo Anne Suurendonk

In the performance Emo, choreographer Anne Suurendonk explores the emotional world of women. In a society in which social codes often restrict women in explicitly expressing emotions, Suurendonk asks herself: what happens if we let go of those social norms? The answer is a space in which emotions can be fully felt and shared.

Two powerful dancers, Melisa Diktaş and Evelien Jansen, bring these emotions to life. Without shame, they make them tangible and palpable. They are both raw and explosive, vulnerable and pure. Driven by Suurendonk's characteristic movement language, full of bounces and grooves, the duet comes to life. Supported by the music of Tom van Wee, the dancers take us into an experience where we not only look, but also feel. Suurendonk invites us to show emotions without a filter and to feel without judgement.

Last year, Anne Suurendonk won the Innovation Award during the Dutch Dance Days 2024. This award gave her the opportunity to create a new performance called Emo, which will premiere at this edition of the Dutch Dance Days. The jury sees Anne as a talented creator who, through complete dedication and surrender, knows how to deeply touch her audience: 'With her very own movement language, which revolves around the inner experience, Anne Suurendonk brings a new color to the dance field. Her work is pure and raw.'
