Ellister van der Molen Quartet

“Playful melodies and lyrical adventures”.

The Ellister van der Molen Quartet plays its own work and also likes to pay homage to the great composers of jazz. Trumpeter Ellister van der Molen was accepted at the age of ten for the classical preparatory course at the Hague Conservatory, on the condition that she would not play jazz for the time being. In the meantime, her lyrical lines have earned her a place in the European jazz landscape in the broadest sense of the word. The release of her CD 'Smalls NYC' earned her and her quartet a place at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2014. The following year, she was a guest soloist at the same festival with the renowned 'Spok Frevo Orchestra'. In the meantime, she is a much sought-after soloist and "sidewoman". She is a member of the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, and the Amsterdam Art Orchestra, founded in 2023, and has recently played concerts in India (Bandan Tree World Jazz Festival), Thailand (Samui Summer Jazz), Tenerife (Natura Jazz), Poland (Szczecin Jazz), Lithuania (Nida Jazz), and South Africa (Joy of Jazz).

The quartet can rightly be called an “all-star” line-up. Don’t expect a tame swing from this quartet: “I actually like it when someone gets into a lot of trouble now and then,” Ellister once said in an interview.
