Ein deutsches Requiem

A comforting requiem in these cold times.

Program selection

New Choir Project sings Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem with four-hand piano accompaniment. The program also includes Nystedt's Immortal Bach based on JS Bach's Komm, süsser Tod. The concert begins with the same Bach chorale, played by the pianists in a monumental setting for piano by Harold Bauer.

Arrangement by Bach for piano

A German Requiem is not a funeral song. The central idea of the work is not the eternal rest of the deceased, but above all the comfort for those who bear the sorrow, music for the living. The version for piano four hands is the so-called London version, used for the first performance of the work in London in 1871. This piano version was published by Brahms himself in 1869.

Performers

Soprano Noëlle Drost and bass-baritone Jaap van der Wel will perform the solo parts. Caecilia Boschman and Jacomijn Puite will accompany on piano. The ensemble will be conducted by Niels Kuijers.
