Een niet natuurlijke dood?

  • Lecture/Debate
  • Free

Organ donation, reckless behavior, or even a crime. What happens when the Public Prosecution Service receives a report of an 'unnatural' death? How is a crime ruled out? Or what happens if a crime appears to be involved? And what does the Burial and Cremation Act actually entail?

In the lunch lecture An Unnatural Death, Nelleke-Eken de Vos, specialist policy secretary of the Expertise Center for Medical Affairs at the Public Prosecution Service, answers these questions and more. She provides a glimpse into the role of the Public Prosecution Service in the inspection of corpses. For all students who in the future, as a Public Prosecutor, lawyer, forensic physician or criminologist, may (possibly) have to deal with decision-making or evidence surrounding an autopsy.

Nelleke Eken-De Vos is a specialist policy secretary at the Medical Affairs Expertise Center of the Public Prosecution Service within the Rotterdam public prosecutor's office.

During the lunch lecture series Crime and Conflict we look at where the boundaries of health care and law meet. Dr. Harma Stenveld, physician at the Euthanasia Expertise Center, will speak on December 3 about a physician's considerations for performing euthanasia.
