Een avond met: Hassan Hajjaj

Nieuwe Instituut and DAR Cultural Agency invite artist and photographer Hassan Hajjaj to talk about his work, his North African roots and the influence of the London music scene on his work.

An Evening With is a monthly series of lectures featuring emerging and established international voices in design, architecture and digital culture. Designers and artists will take you on a journey through their practice, sources of inspiration, fascinations and dreams for the future.

Nieuwe Instituut and DAR Cultural Agency invite Moroccan artist and photographer Hassan Hajjaj to talk about his work, his North African roots and the influence on his work of club, hip hop and reggae from London. The evening will be moderated by Zineb Seghrouchni, founder of DAR Cultural Agency.

Hassan Hajjaj combines traditional Moroccan culture with contemporary Western influences. His work focuses primarily on those with an African, Caribbean or Middle Eastern background. He paints a picture of a society that is more united than divided by differences.

Hajjaj’s work spans portraiture, installation, performance, fashion and interior design. He has been called “the Andy Warhol of Marrakesh” for his use of bright colors, dynamic patterns and everyday objects to create unique compositions and explore the relationship between East and West.

This event is organized in collaboration with DAR Cultural Agency. The evening is in English.
