Drie dagen vis
This black-and-white tragicomedy explores the tense relationship between Gerrie and his son Dick during their annual three-day reunion in Rotterdam, with the looming possibility that this could be Gerrie's last visit.
After successfully premiering at IFFR 2025 and landing in second place among the audience favorites, Three Days of Fish is finally hitting theaters. This black-and-white tragicomedy explores the tense relationship between Gerrie and his son Dick during their annual three-day reunion in Rotterdam, with the looming possibility that this could be Gerrie's last visit.
Gerrie (68) from Rotterdam has been living in the Algarve with his second wife Rosa for years, but is still officially registered in the Netherlands. Gerrie, a former bus driver, is a COPD patient and goes to Rotterdam once a year for his check-ups and other routine visits. He then stays with his Cape Verdean stepdaughter and also reunites with his son Dick (45), who is at odds with himself and the rest of the world. Gerrie has been closing his eyes and ears to his son's issues for years. Dick always expects too much from the short reunion with his father and wants quality time. This year, the threat is in the air that it could be Gerrie's last visit to the Netherlands.
Ten years after his acclaimed debut Between 10 and 12, filmmaker Peter Hoogendoorn is back with the equally personal, sometimes hilarious and always sincere Three Days of Fish. In fitting black and white, against the backdrop of the city and with empathetic and subdued acting by Ton Kas and Guido Pollemans, you can see with a laugh how important it is to talk to each other.
