Des Teufels Bad

This psychological folk horror by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala is set in a remote Alpine spa town. The story follows young Agnes, who travels with her brother to the spa town, famous for its mysterious and sometimes dark treatment methods.

Austria, 18th century. The deeply religious and highly sensitive Agnes has only just married when it becomes clear that she does not feel at home in her husband's world. The emotionally cold days consisting of work, chores and expectations soon become too much for her. Agnes withdraws further and further. Her own restrictions become increasingly oppressive, her melancholy more extreme. Soon her only way out seems to be shockingly violent.

Director duo Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala presented their grim thriller at the Berlinale, where it was nominated for Best Film and won the Silver Berlin Bear for cinematography. With visually impressive images and an atmospheric soundtrack, Franz and Fiala create an oppressive atmosphere that keeps the viewer in its grip.
