De toekomst van de Rotterdamse haven + Een kano naar zee
A Canoe to the Sea casts a critical eye on the future of the port of Rotterdam, in which growth and fossil interests have the city in their grip. A theatre performance and panel discussion about the past, present and future.
In A Canoe to the Sea, the lives of port barons DG van Beuningen and Frans Posthuma are reconstructed to show how the port of Rotterdam is deeply intertwined with the fossil industry. The performance is both an ode to the heroes of progress and a confrontational reckoning with the downside of unbridled growth. What started with a canoe at sea, turned into coal ships, supertankers and container giants—but is a smaller, more sustainable future still possible? The performance will be followed by a panel discussion with experts and policymakers about the future of the port, led by journalist Tara Lewis. An evening in which economy, politics, landscape and art come together to explore new perspectives.
