Daan Kluwer Quintet brings a compelling mix of jazz, electronics and post-rock, inspired by dystopian science fiction stories.
With his expressive sound, lyrical improvisations and narrative compositions, saxophonist, composer and bandleader Daan Kluwer (Utrecht, 1998) is one of the promises of the Dutch music scene. With his Quintet, Daan delves into the depths of 20th century science fiction literature. Inspired by dystopian classics such as George Orwell's 1984 and Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, the band makes music that makes the listener think. They explore themes such as the rise of artificial intelligence, authoritarian regimes, climate change and the ethical limits of genetic manipulation, with each composition serving as a chapter in a larger, unfolding story. With a sound that combines electronics, post-rock influences and cinematic soundscapes, the Quintet immerses listeners in a world that feels both futuristic and frighteningly close.
