Club Guy & Roni Invites: Barnaby Booth + Lunatics & Poets
Club Guy & Roni invites choreographers with whom it feels related to create new work, in line with their mission to support makers and bring them to the attention of a larger audience.
This double bill focuses on choreographers Barnaby Booth and the duo Lunatics & Poets (Anna Jacobs and Hanna van der Meer), who have previously created work for Club Guy & Roni.
Barnaby Booth
Barnaby is an award-winning choreographer and lighting designer. Graduated from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD), he won a number of prizes at the Stuttgart International Solo Festival and at the Gdanski festival tanca in Poland in 2017. From there he completed successful commissions worldwide, with most notably for the English National Opera, and became an associate artist of TRAK Dance Ensemble (Austria). Barnaby Booth made the Parade hit Like a Prayer in 2023, about which de Volkskrant wrote: “ Choreographer Barnaby Booth creates some masterful moments in Like a Prayer, in which he investigates intergenerational traumas within families .”
Lunatics & Poets
Lunatics & Poets connects different disciplines and initiates a diverse dialogue. Their work has already won several prizes. The duet I am a poem, there is no way out even won three: the Club Guy & Roni partner award during RIDCC (2018), the Golden Butterfly Award Dance Fest (2019) and the first prize at Festival10Sentidos Valencia (2020). In Postcards from a better place , which they made for Club Giuy & Roni Invites in 2022, they highlight the dark side of humanity. From apparent child's play to open violence, it is the inner darkness that confronts us with irreversible actions, shame and guilt. The performance is a poetic portrait of the shadow side that at the same time makes us human. The Theaterkrant wrote about it: “ Image, sound and movement form a beautifully fused trinity that intrigues from the opening scene to the last second. ”
