Cinema Islemunda x IFFR: La Chimera
In the run-up to the new edition of the IFFR festival, Cinema Islemunda and International Film Festival Rotterdam are offering an interesting programme on the big screen to warm you up.
Alice Rohrwacher's latest fairy tale starring Josh O'Connor! Josh O'Connor is best known for his role as Prince Charles in The Crown. He also starred in God's Own Country, Only You, Mothering Sunday, Lee and Challengers.
With her latest feature film, Alice Rohrwacher (Lazzaro Felice) once again creates a true-to-life fairy tale. La Chimera – which can be translated as ‘the unattainable dream’ – takes you back to the 1980s in Tuscany, where a British archaeologist joins a gang of art thieves. A film that is as sparkling as it is moving; as sad as it is deeply romantic.
1980s, Riparbella on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Everyone has their own 'Chimera', something they try to reach but can never find. The Tombaroli gang of grave robbers hunt for easy wealth by stealing Etruscan relics. British Arthur joins them, trying to fill the void he has felt since losing his great love Beniamina. In an adventurous journey between the living and the dead, between forests and cities, between parties and loneliness, the fates of all those searching for the Chimera are completely intertwined.
