Cafe Theater Festival

You are standing unsuspectingly in a café and BAM!, out of nowhere a performance starts. A rapper climbs on the bar and starts rapping, dancers jump on your table, the bartender starts an aria and next to you an actor starts crying heartbreakingly. For many, the Café Theater Festival is a first introduction to theater, so close to the skin that it leaves no one untouched.

Walhalla and the CTF are taking over Rotterdam for the Café Theater Festival Rotterdam. Fifteen catering establishments in Rotterdam (including Foyer Cafe Walhalla) will form the backdrop for short performances by makers from various disciplines on these days.

The CTF has been a household name in Utrecht for over 20 years, and in Rotterdam and Arnhem for 4 years. The concept is actually very simple: we place performances by new theatre and dance makers in the café. The performance starts without a stage, decor or announcement. The audience, a mix of casual café visitors and festival audience, does not have to buy a ticket in advance but pays afterwards using a Pay What You Can system.
