Burnt
A tough chef, played by Bradley Cooper, once messed up in the kitchen world of Paris (you know: booze, drugs and women) and arrives in London after years of penance to conquer a third star. However, that doesn't happen easily. He encounters old rivals and betrayed friends, he doesn't want to cook modern (= sous vide) and expresses his frustrations in a Gordon Ramsay way: swearing and throwing plates. The film is about his return to the normal world and to some humanity in his existence. A star cast full of sympathetic opponents (Daniel Brühl, Omar Sy, Matthew Rhys) and the dishes are truly fan-tas-tic.
The dishes are exceptionally tasty and beautifully filmed. The culinary director was none other than Marcus Wareing, a British top chef working in Los Angeles. It contains dishes from modern French cuisine, as you would expect in London – where the film is set. Really a film that you have to taste.
What you see is what you eat. At exactly the same time, you eat what is eaten in the film. Good film + good food + great timing. The key is in the latter. An example. When Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper) eats a pasta cacio e pepe at minute 5 in the film, we want our guests to taste exactly the same thing at the same time. A minute earlier or later is the difference between a good and a fan-tas-tic experience. It is about not only seeing and hearing the film, but also tasting and feeling it.
