Boris Oud en Philippe Lavoipierre
The two musicians, who met in 2018 through a mutual friend, each play in various ensembles a wide variety of musical styles. As a duo they have a great musical click that consists of traditional jazz from the 50s and 60s, where it is all about the joint dialogue and improvisation, but also blues, rock, African and South American influences can be heard in their playing. Below you can watch two recordings, 'Afro Blue' and 'She's leaving home', which give you a good idea of what to expect.
Philippe Lavoipierre, born in California, started his career as a guitarist in the Bay area and later moved to New York where he played with local jazz musicians. As a true globetrotter, he has lived in Singapore, Brazil, Portugal and Spain before he ended up in Rotterdam. His guitar playing contains influences from different styles such as Brazilian and blues music, but his main ingredient is the American jazz music of the 50s and 60s.
Boris Oud, a skilled player of both double bass and bass guitar, studied at Codarts in Rotterdam where he obtained his bachelor's degree in jazz in 2011. As a session musician he is active at home and abroad in jazz, pop, rock, Brazilian music and cabaret. Boris has previously been admired in the Heerenhuys with Brisa Carioca, the Brazilian jazz ensemble around flutist Floor Polder, but also with Sem Jansen and Leif de Leeuw with whom he played an acoustic Americana set. With these two thoroughbred musicians Boris plays in the Leif de Leeuw Band, a blues and southern rock formation with which a tour starts in January 2025 with singer Berget Lewis.
