Boléro

Maurice Ravel's Boléro is one of the most recognized French masterpieces in the world and has undoubtedly influenced the history of music and dance. While Ravel was preparing for a four-month concert tour of the United States and Canada, his friend and patron Ida Rubinstein asked him to create a "Spanish character ballet." Ravel, who was inclined to the idea of dance, chose the Boléro, a traditional Andalusian dance. Thus the work was born.
