Body of goodbyes
Body of Goodbyes searches for comfort and love for your body.
Choreographer and dancer Marijke de Vos knows better than anyone that you only have one body, and you have to take care of it. That is why she decided to create Body of Goodbyes with her collective Teddy Shouldn't Smoke. In it, De Vos and musician Laura Nygren (Show Pony) ask the question: why aren't we a little kinder to our bodies? We all get older, and especially for dancers and other people who work with their bodies, this can sometimes be a difficult realization. Dancers, but also top athletes and other artists, with the exception of Keith Richards, usually cannot continue to do their work at the same level for the rest of their lives, because sooner or later the body protests. But the same applies to, for example, road pavers or construction workers. And even the most boring office job or the most fun hobby is often not sustainable until you are 90. Body of Goodbyes links this theme to the contemporary performance culture: we always want more and better, but when and how does this come at the expense of our body?
In this performance, you are completely immersed in another world through the combination of dance, live music and scenography: that of the body, and how you deal with it. Body of Goodbyes takes you on a journey that leads from a difficult attitude with your body, full of conflict, to acceptance and care. A warm bath with a hard message: be kind to yourself, before it is too late.
