Beste Mensen - Bureau Vergezicht

For Beste Mensen , theatre maker and writer Anoek Nuyens examined climate speeches from the past fifty years. The performance not only shows historical speeches, but also the history of the climate movement. It was once characterised by optimism, when both left-wing and right-wing politicians such as Margaret Thatcher and Richard Nixon called for tackling this 'new major problem'. Now, fifty years later, that optimism has given way to despair and young people and climate activists are taking to the streets all over the world. The question that is now on the table: what comes after that despair? Could the turning point lie in the sum of the speeches?

Beste Mensen is a topical performance about passionate climate language, rich imagination and poor politics and is played by actress Hannah Hoekstra (winner of the Theo d'Or 2019). The direction is in the hands of Erik Whien (known for performances such as Verdriet is het ding met veren and A Case for the Existence of God ).
