Bentje Braam
The are back together
There have been two Bentjes Braam, or Bentje Bramen. Have made as many albums. We now present edition three!
On the occasion of Michiel Braam reaching the age of 60 in 2024, Bas Andriessen made a documentary about him. The film will show around 20 fragments, mainly filmed by Andriessen between the eighties and now, including Bik Bent Braam, Trio BraamDeJoodeVatcher and Nopera, about which Andriessen also interviews Braam.
For the framework of the premiere, Michiel composed this new version of Bentje Braam, with musicians from different stages of his musical life. With this band, a new version of his Second Coolbook is played. That program from 1995 has since been performed in many versions, with solo piano but also in arrangements for the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and the Metropole Orchestra.
This time with Michiels fellow Penguin Frank Nielander on alto sax, Bentje and Bik Bender from the very beginning tenor tuba player Peter Haex, Jort Terwijn who is making his mark with his own project ÖNDER on double bass, the exceptionally driving yet subtle Reeds & Deeds drummer Makki van Engelen and Braam himself at the piano. At the concert in De Fruitvis the renowned Utrecht bandleader-bassist Dion Nijland plays the double bass instead of Jort.
Occupation
Frank Nielander, alto saxophone; Peter Haex, tenor tuba; Michiel Braam, piano
