Prague-based Cult Of Fire falls into the category of special bands. The Czechs basically play black metal with many atmospheric elements without losing themselves in too much bombast. They are also known to perform together

work with orchestras. And have already covered a symphony. In addition, their lyrics are often about Hinduism and Buddhism. They wrap all that live in an enigmatic spectacle, so that there is actually enough to look at when this collective is on stage.

The Great Old Ones

Since their debut 'Al Azif' from 2012, these Frenchmen have been making an impression. Musically, The Great Old Ones mixes black metal with post-rock, creating an atmospheric whole in which the listener is carried away into a Lovecraftian world that this band describes lyrically. The fresh album 'Kadath' sucks you into the world of the Cthulhu Mythos.

Caronte

Caronte from Italy takes a different tack. Here it is more about doom metal with references to stoner and seventies rock. Lyrically, this band draws inspiration from the works of Aleister Crowley. That combination certainly makes Caronte a worthy opener of this divergent day.
