Avishai Darash Quartet

Pianist and composer Avishai Darash is inspired by traditional North African music, American jazz, Western classical music and Middle Eastern folk. These influences subtly flow seamlessly into each other. In LantarenVenster he presents his recently released album Between Hope and Despair with trumpeter Antonio Moreno Glazkov, bassist Jeroen Vierdag and drummer Yoran Vroom.

On this new album Darash reflects on the current turbulent times, sometimes energetic and combative, then melancholic and desperate. It expresses itself in very diverse compositions that are accessible and adventurous.

Darash's beautiful playing does not go unnoticed. As noted pianist Brad Mehldau says: "Darash's strong technique at the piano allows him to explore the individual approach he's taking, both as a bandleader and pianist."
