Determined to keep up with the men around her, her dream of winning the annual competition is jeopardized when an escaped wild bull causes a series of deaths and a mystery unfolds surrounding her colleagues.
Director Emma Benestan combines genres such as mystery, horror and western influences in Animale, telling a feminist story about a young woman who relates to both the aggressive masculinity of the bull competitions and the animals themselves. The film impressively captures the tension of the bull competitions, with dynamic camerawork and a strong performance from lead actress Oulaya Amamra.
