Anansi the spider

If you're not strong or big, you have to be smart! Dive into the world of the resourceful and mischievous Anansi. The spider, known from age-old West African, Surinamese and Caribbean folk tales, also shines in the child-friendly picture books.

In the small-scale exhibition, families and children discover the stories and rich history of Anansi through colorful drawings by the Moldybyrd Studio collective and creative assignments.

From a memory game and treasure hunt to interactive questions and a drawing competition: children get to know Anansi in a playful way. The exhibition features colourful illustrations from the picture books, in which the influences of West African culture are clearly visible. Yngwie Boley, Diana van Houten and JJ Epping from Moldybyrd Studio were inspired by traditional clothing and vibrant fabrics, among other things. The tropical decor is also reflected in the design of Anansi himself - for example, his belly is reminiscent of an African shield. In addition, food plays an important role in the stories, which is reflected in playful illustrations full of tropical fruit and Surinamese dishes.
