An Italian dream
Ensemble Fonos brings the time of 'The Italian Dream', the Italian Renaissance, back to life with works by the Flemish Giaches de Wert, Maddalena Casulana, the Englishman Peter Philips, Raffaella Aleotti, Monteverdi and others.
During the Renaissance, Italy was the place where art flourished, think of Dante, Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. The Roman Catholic Church was an important client, but there was also a flourishing art life outside the church. Ensemble Fonos brings this time, in which music also made a great leap forward and flourished, back to life.
Just like the American Dream in later times, it was the time of the Italian dream. Everything was possible! In retrospect, Italian art from Roman times to the late Middle Ages was the origin of today's art. Fonos, an ensemble of young, dynamic musicians, brings this special time to life. They perform choral works by, among others, the Flemish Giaches de Wert, the female composer Maddalena Casulana, the Englishman Peter Philips, Raffaella Aleotti and Claudio Monteverdi. In addition to a capella music, there is music accompanied by lute and chest organ, the latter played by Eric Koevoets.
In this way, with The Italian Dream, Fonos celebrates the dreams – individual and collective – that transcended the boundaries of geography, gender and circumstances to shape one of the most extraordinary musical evolutions in history!
