In The Empress, a woman who has not slept for ten days tries to share her deepest thoughts with her partner, who has been asleep for just as long. While he is silent, she discovers freedom in her words. At Amsterdam Poet's Theater, everything revolves around the chemistry between text, actor and audience, with performances that are only performed once. With minimal resources and maximum expressiveness, Amanda Payne and Gillis Biesheuvel bring this poetic and confrontational piece to life, as part of the second season of Amsterdam Poet's Theater.
