AMORAL Theater Rotterdam / Jasper Vaillant
In many stories about World War II, courageous resistance dominates. There is little room for the gray area between 'right' and 'wrong'. Why do we look away from this? Do we hide behind moral superiority?
In AMORAL, ten young people from Rotterdam delve into collaboration and the generational consequences of eighty years of 'looking the other way'. They speak with three (grand)children of so-called collaborators and tell their story. How does their family history affect their lives? What is actually 'good' and 'bad'? And who decides that?
This year, hundreds of young people throughout the Netherlands are once again committed to giving meaning to 4 May. As part of Theater Na De Dam, theatre maker Jasper Vaillant delves into a different aspect of the Second World War that has been neglected in history each year. In this way, Theater Rotterdam not only reflects on the past, but also on the horror of the present.
