Alles goed
In Weesp, a new shelter for refugees from Ukraine is opened. Documentary makers Petra Lataster-Czisch and Peter Lataster also walk in the procession of household goods, suitcases, staff and new residents. With their warm-blooded camera eyes, they observe how children run around screaming, rooms are furnished and a new daily reality unfolds. A large kitchen forms a central meeting place, with shiny induction hobs and a numbered spot in the fridge for each room. While the camera follows and records, stories full of heart-rending loss resound. Safety provides relief, but without grandmother's unsurpassed borscht and the warm embrace of loved ones, life is hard. "All is well," says one woman, in tears. "We have to live, we have to cook," says another. And cooking is done. Pots of homesickness and comfort. For Zoia, it is a necessary escape from her room where the photo of her fallen son unleashes unstoppable grief. She cuts, chops, kneads, stirs and hands out. Every day she video calls her husband at the front, and every day she begs him to leave the battlefield.
