All We Imagine As Light

Mumbai-based nurse Prabha is thrown into disarray when her estranged husband reaches out to her again. Meanwhile, her younger roommate Anu searches for a way to take the next step in her secret relationship. When the two women temporarily leave the hustle and bustle of the city to visit a nearby coastal town, they finally find the space to fulfill their deepest desires. Directed by Payal Kapadia, the film blends documentary and fiction, offering an intimate look at the personal and societal challenges the women face. It explores themes of desire, self-discovery and the impact of patriarchal structures on daily life, set against the vibrant and chaotic backdrop of Mumbai. All We Imagine as Light has received worldwide acclaim and was awarded the Grand Prix at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. The film was praised for its emotional depth and the way it depicts the complexities of the female perspective in India. It was also nominated for Best Director and Best Foreign Language Film at the Golden Globe Awards.
