8 String players rediscover Dutch and Nordic folk by Röntgen, Grieg and Maier.
When the young pianist and composer Julius Röntgen moved from Germany to the Netherlands in 1877, he quickly became an active part of the local cultural life. He was particularly attracted to Dutch folk music and gained insight into the traditions, daily life and national character of the country through the songs and dances. This music became a lasting source of inspiration in his compositions.
Like his good friend Edvard Grieg from Norway and his partner Amanda Maier from Sweden, Röntgen dedicated his life to collecting and studying folk melodies. Folk music captures the essence of a people - simple yet profound, rooted in tradition and at the same time timeless in beauty.
Agathe Ensemble presents "Scenes of a Folk Life", with music from the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. Originally written for piano, these works have been arranged for strings by the musicians themselves and will be part of Agathe's second studio album, which will be released in 2026.
