On Saturday, November 22, 2025, the Doelen will celebrate 50 years of Surinamese independence with a grand musical spectacle. During this special evening, Surinamese music history and cultural diversity come together in a concert full of iconic songs and surprising reinterpretations.
A musical journey through 50 years of Suriname
Surinamese music has always played an important role in the identity of the country and the diaspora. From kaseko and Suripop to Afro-Surinamese, Hindustani and Javanese classics—this evening is a musical journey through time in which the heritage of Suriname comes to life. Accompanied by a top orchestra of Surinamese musicians from various ethnic backgrounds, Dutch and Surinamese artists perform songs that have remained beloved for generations.
With performances by Powl Ameerali, Nisha Madaran and Oscar Harris and a carefully composed repertoire, the biggest Surinamese hits are given a new look. The evening will be a special mix of nostalgia, party and reflection on the cultural developments of the past 50 years.
