Through Stippenlift, singer and producer Hugo van de Poel shares his lifelong struggle with depression and navigating a neurotypical world. Recommended by some psychologists for those struggling with severe depression, Stippenlift’s music proudly exists within the self-proclaimed genre of depriwave: a celebration of mental vulnerability. His unique synthwave tracks are danceable and uplifting, but the lyrics deal with heavy and deeply personal themes. Under Hugo’s guidance, you can dance while embracing gender confusion, or loudly proclaim that you’re autistic—all to remind yourself that you’re not alone. Few can convey so much heaviness with so much energy and enthusiasm.

What started as niche music has since grown into an extensive body of work, several alter egos, a series of melancholic Christmas hits and accompanying performances, a tight-knit Instagram community that discusses and celebrates mental health, and even his own depriwave clothing line. Stippenlift has released a wealth of music, including collaborations with Faberyayo of De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig.
